The app is based off of Ravenscroft's professional desktop VST, which is normally $200. It's just $18, and I'd say it's competitive with Pianoteq for most uses. Before you consider shelling out at least $129 for the cheapest version of Pianoteq, you should check out the Ravenscroft 275 mobile app if you have an iPhone or iPad. I'm starting to sound like a Pianoteq rep though. I notice no latency between the two sounds I actually sometimes layer the sound with my 560's sound just because I like feeling the vibrations from the its built in speakers for a more physical sound. I'd say it's the lightest piano vst of decent quality it could practically run on a potato.

Pianoteq has virtually no latency when set up properly (Make sure to download Asio4All if you're on Windows). But both of those are better options that the 150s speakers anyway! So you can use Pianoteq just the same, the main difference is just that the 560 doesn't have an audio input so you'll have either use Pianoteq with headphones or with external speakers. I actually use a px-560, which is basically just a 150/160 with more features. The only thing I really tweaked was bit more sympathetic resonance (because I'm a sucker for that), and decreasing the damper duration, which I think gives a more realistic staccato. So for serious practice I'd use Pianoteq, but when I just wanted something that sounded pretty, I'd use the Ravenscroft.īut after buying most of the Pianoteq grands in slow succession, this is the first that I think might pull me away from Ravenscroft for longer. The Ravenscroft seemed more 'natural' and played really well for a sampled piano, but wasnt quite as expressive - let alone customizable - as Pianoteq, which plays like a dream. The K2 isn't a real piano, of course.Īnd yeah, I use Ravenscroft 275 a lot and usually switch between that and Pianoteq.

From the modern grands, and in terms of 'realism' (just in general, I haven't heard most of these pianos in real life) I'd rank them something like Steingraeber > Grotrian = Steinway B >= Bluethner >= Steinway D > K2 > YC5. If you do, definitely get this over the Steinway D.
